The leaves have started to fall which makes it a busy time for Windo-Well Cover Co., Inc. This is the right time to think about covering your wells. As you are raking your leaves, you may notice that your wells have taken on a pile of leaves. This is super dangerous. First, it becomes a haven for critters. Frogs, mice, voles, lizards, possum and raccoons are looking for areas to stay warm and in some cases a home.   This is not what you want. Second, leaves in window wells are the culprit of clogging drain holes. Once drain holes are clogged, the water can fill up a well and eventually seep into the house or break the window. Then you could have a costly mishap.

Speaking of mishaps caused by leaves, this is a good time to check gutters to make sure they are free of debris and make sure downspouts are connected correctly and are free from debris at the bottom of the drain spout. If you notice water pooling back towards your house, you should think about attaching a gutter extension. I know Andy Wehrli at 630-551-4188  does gutter cleaning.

While you are outside, walk around the house to see if you might have any mice holes. If you see a hole, you can fill it with Great Stuff. I would get the rodent resistant kind. It comes out like shaving cream, so a little goes a long way. It dries an orange color and seals holes up nicely.   You should also close your garage door in daylight and with the lights off inside, see if you see any mice holes shining through the walls. They are sneaky.

And of course, if you need window well covers or know someone who does, our number is 1-800-422-5339. We can custom make covers and we do clean out wells while we are in the well!
